KABUL, May 12 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan has sent agricultural aid, including rice and cotton seeds, to Afghanistan as part of cooperation to help the neighboring country improve its agricultural field, state-run Bakhtar news agency reported on Monday.

Aimed at research and boosting the agricultural sector, the aid includes 20 tons of rice seed, 5 tons of cotton seed and 1.3 tons of vegetable seed, delivered to the Afghan side at Hairatan crossing point in northern Afghanistan's Balkh province on Sunday, the state-owned media outlet added.

The assistance takes place following a visit by Afghan Acting Minister for Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Attaullah Omari to Tashkent in April. Uzbekistan is expected to send more assistance, including agricultural tools and machinery, to its post-war neighboring country in the near future.
