Kidnapped man rescued, 4 kidnappers detained in Afghanistan's Parwan

KABUL, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Police have rescued a kidnapped man and arrested four alleged kidnappers in eastern Afghanistan's Parwan province, a statement of the Ministry of Interior Affairs said Thursday.

The alleged kidnappers abducted a man from Kabul on Saturday and demanded 300,000 U.S. dollars as ransom for his release, the statement said, adding that police tracked down the kidnapped man in Jabal Saraj district and rescued him from the clutches of kidnappers on Wednesday.

Police have handed over the kidnappers to the judiciary for further investigation, the statement said without providing more details.

Although security is tight elsewhere in Afghanistan, the criminal elements are still active in parts of the country and, in some cases, attempting to kidnap members of well-off families to extort money in the war-ravaged and poverty-stricken Afghanistan.
