Afghan police unearth firearms, ammunition

KABUL, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- Police in the northern Afghan province of Baghlan have seized a large quantity of illegal firearms, including 25 pistols, the Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA) reported Thursday.

The weapons were recovered in an intelligence-led operation in the Dahana-i-Ghuri district, according to security sources cited by the RTA.

No further details were provided. The report reiterated that no unauthorized individual is permitted to keep or carry weapons.

As part of efforts to uphold law and order, the Afghan government has vowed to collect arms and ammunition from all individuals outside official security institutions across the country.
