Afghan child killed, another injured as unexploded ordnance goes off

KABUL, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- A child was killed and another injured as an unexploded ordnance left over from the past wars went off in the western Badghis province, said a statement of the provincial police office on Sunday.

The accident occurred when the children were playing in Sang-e-Atash area on Saturday evening, killing one child on the spot and injuring another, the statement said.

Afghanistan is regarded as one of the most mine-contaminated countries in the world, as the mines and unexploded devices left over from the past more than four decades of war often target people in the country.
