Roof collapse kills 6 in S. Afghanistan amid heavy storms

KABUL, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- At least six children were killed after the roof of a mud house collapsed amid heavy storms and rainfall in southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province on Wednesday night, a local official said on Thursday.

The incident occurred in the Karz region of Dand district, where intense storms and torrential rain caused the structure to give way, according to Mullah Abdul Salam Omari, director of the provincial disaster management authority.

In a separate incident, three people were killed and two others injured when a mudslide struck a residential house following heavy rain and snowfall in eastern Nuristan province on Wednesday.

Most parts of Afghanistan have experienced persistent rain and snowfall in recent days. The country's meteorological department has forecast continued rainfall and snowfall across most regions, including the capital Kabul, in the coming days.
