KABUL, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities on Wednesday destroyed hundreds of kilograms of illicit drugs by fire, which had been seized during a series of anti-narcotics operations in northern Afghanistan's Takhar province, provincial police spokesman Nizamudin Omir confirmed to Xinhua.

The confiscated substances included heroin, hashish, opium, stimulant tablets, and various materials used for drug production, Omir said, adding that the drugs had been intercepted from smugglers and illegal production facilities, preventing them from reaching local and cross-border markets.

The official emphasized that the destruction of seized drugs sent a strong message to traffickers and underscores the government's commitment to combating narcotics.

In recent years, authorities have raided cultivation fields, labs, and trafficking networks to protect public health and improve security.
