Afghan gov't issues nearly 575,000 electronic IDs in 2 months

KABUL, May 31 (Xinhua) -- The National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) of Afghanistan said nearly 575,000 national electronic identity cards (IDs) have been distributed to Afghan citizens over the past two months, local media Tolonews reported Saturday.

According to the NSIA, the services provided included the issuance of 1,978 new paper ID cards and 509 replacement cards, the verification of 2,068 existing documents, and the correction of citizenship information of 3,088 people via the remote portal.

In order to ensure timely and equitable services for citizens, electronic ID distribution centers have been extended to remote areas and districts, facilitating easier access to identification for residents.
