Over 12 mln Afghan children receive polio vaccine in past year: UN

KABUL, April 25 (Xinhua) -- More than 12 million children in Afghanistan have been vaccinated against polio over the past year, achieving a coverage rate of 98 percent, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said, according to local media Tolonews on Saturday.

In addition to polio vaccination efforts, 16.6 million doses of measles vaccines and 1.6 million doses of Penta-3 vaccines were administered during the same period, the report said.

Afghanistan remains one of the few countries where polio is still endemic, and nationwide vaccination drives continue with support from international organizations despite ongoing challenges such as limited healthcare access and economic difficulties.
