Afghan police seize 50,000 stimulant tablets, arrest 123 drug smugglers

KABUL, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have seized 50,000 stimulant tablets in eastern Nangarhar province and arrested 123 individuals in connection with drug smuggling in the capital Kabul, the Ministry of Interior Affairs announced late Tuesday.

In a statement, the ministry said counter-narcotics police acting on a tip-off discovered the tablets in Jalalabad city, the provincial capital, and detained two suspects in connection with the case.

In a separate operation over the past seven days, police forces arrested 123 individuals across various parts of Kabul city on charges of drug trafficking and distribution, the ministry added.

Authorities recovered over 2,000 intoxicating tablets, 15 kg of hashish, and quantities of opium and methamphetamine from the detainees, according to the statement.

The crackdown is part of ongoing efforts by Afghan security forces to combat drug smuggling and distribution networks operating across the country.
