Afghan border police arrest over 130 suspects, crackdown on smuggling

KABUL, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Afghan border police have arrested more than 130 individuals suspected of involvement in smuggling, forgery, and other criminal activities during over 100 targeted operations in the past six months, local media Tolo News reported on Saturday.

According to the report, the operations were carried out across multiple provinces along the country's borders to curb cross-border criminal networks, prevent the smuggling of contraband, and strengthen border security.

The majority of arrests were linked to organized smuggling rings and document forgery operations, which pose significant challenges to national security, the report added.

The Afghan government emphasized that ongoing border security efforts are part of the country's broader strategy to maintain law and order, combat crime, and protect public safety.
