3.7 mln Afghan children hit by severe malnutrition annually: UNICEF

KABUL, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan is facing one of the world's most acute child malnutrition crises, with around 3.7 million children suffering from wasting each year, according to a UNICEF report released on Tuesday.

UNICEF country representative Tajudeen Oyewale made the remarks during the launch of Afghanistan's Revised Guidelines on the Prevention and Treatment of Wasting here in the Afghan capital, Kabul.

Malnutrition represents a profound threat to children's lives, cognitive development, and long-term prospects, with impacts rippling from individual families to the wider community.
