Weapon, military equipment seized in southwestern Afghanistan

KABUL, Jan. 3 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police have seized a cache of weapons and military equipment during special intelligence-based operations in Nawa district of southern Helmand province, the provincial police office said on Saturday.

According to an official statement, police forces carried out targeted operations in the area, resulting in the arrest of two individuals in connection with the seized items.

The suspects are currently under investigation and will be referred to judicial authorities upon completion of preliminary inquiries, the statement added.

Security forces have stepped up search and intelligence-based operations in several parts of the country as part of ongoing efforts to maintain stability and curb the illegal possession of weapons, according to officials.
