KABUL, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's counter-narcotics forces conducted 10,599 operations across the country in 2025, confiscating 2,356 tons of illicit drugs and dismantling 517 clandestine drug processing labs, deputy government spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat announced on Thursday.

The seized substances included 33.8 tons of hashish, 32.5 tons of opium, 3 tons of methamphetamine, 555 kg of heroin, 232 kg of morphine, and various precursor chemicals used in heroin production, Fitrat posted on his X account.

While not stating the number of arrests, the official emphasized that authorities will not tolerate the production, sale, or smuggling of illegal drugs in Afghanistan.

As part of broader efforts to address drug addiction, police detained 35,228 drug users across various provinces and transferred them to rehabilitation centers for treatment, Fitrat added.
