KABUL, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- The National Statistics and Information Authority (NSIA) has issued 10.6 million electronic national identity cards across Afghanistan over the past four years, local media outlet Tolo News reported on Saturday.
According to the report, NSIA currently operates 11 service centers nationwide and is preparing to open some additional offices dedicated to assisting Afghans living abroad. Officials said the expansion aims to streamline access to national identification services for citizens outside the country.
Since the launch of the electronic ID program, more than 16 million Afghans have received electronic ID cards, marking a significant step toward modernizing the country's civil registration and improving the accuracy of demographic data.
The expansion of electronic identification services has been seen as a key element in strengthening governance, enhancing public service delivery, and supporting long-term development planning in Afghanistan.
