Over 2.3 mln Afghan refugees return from Pakistan, Iran so far in 2025: UNHCR

KABUL, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- More than 2.3 million Afghan refugees have returned to their homeland from neighboring Pakistan and Iran so far in 2025, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) on Thursday.

Around 6 million Afghan refugees, mostly undocumented, are currently living abroad, with the majority living in Iran and Pakistan, the Afghan Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said in late July.
