27 years of enmity between Afghan families turns to amity

KABUL, July 20 (Xinhua) -- With the mediation of the Ministry of Borders and Tribal Affairs, a 27-year-old enmity between two families was ended in eastern Afghanistan's Laghman province on Saturday, reported the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA) on Sunday.

At least 10 people had been killed and several others injured during nearly three decades of feud between the two sides in Alishing district, the state-owned media outlet said.

Members of both families renounced the past enmity and committed to living in peace, added the report.

More than four decades of war, civil strife and a chaotic situation, in addition to badly damaging social sectors and economic infrastructures, have also caused enmity among tribes, clans and ethnic groups in the multi-ethnic Afghanistan, a problem that the Afghan interim government has been trying to overcome.
