2 miners killed as tunnel of gold mine caves in N. Afghanistan

KABUL, July 18 (Xinhua) -- At least two gold miners lost their lives as a tunnel from a gold mine collapsed in northern Afghanistan's Badakhshan province, provincial police spokesman Ehsanullah Kamgar said Thursday night.

The incident took place on Thursday afternoon when a group of miners were busy extracting the precious element in a gold mine in the Raghistan district outside the provincial capital, Faizabad. The incident resulted in the deaths of two miners, the official added.

Lack of modern machinery in mining and illegal extraction of mines by unskilled miners often leads to disaster, which has claimed the lives of poor miners in Afghanistan.
