KABUL, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Construction of a health center has started in the Chaman district of western Afghanistan's Farah province, the state-owned Bakhtar news agency reported Friday.

Would be completed in six months at a cost of more than 186,000 U.S. dollars, the health center could provide services in the fields of maternity, maternal, child, and nutrition to the residents of Chaman district and adjoining areas, the report added.

In an effort to improve the health sector, the Afghan interim government's public health ministry has decided to build a healthcare center in each of about 400 districts of the war-ravaged country.
