Development projects inaugurated in Afghanistan to improve economy

KABUL, May 2 (Xinhua) -- Afghan authorities have inaugurated development projects to improve the local economy in east Afghanistan's Wardak province, local media Tolo News reported Friday.

The projects, worth 75 million afghani (over 1 million U.S. dollars), include the construction of roads, canals, dams, and other infrastructure facilities in Jaghato districts of Wardak, the report added.

According to the report, local people welcomed the projects for bringing new job opportunities, and hoped for more projects to improve their living conditions.

The Afghan interim government has planned to launch more development and infrastructure projects across the war-ravaged country to tackle economic challenges and create job opportunities.
