Afghan power company kicks off 4 projects worth 8.1 mln USD

KABUL, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan power company Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) has inaugurated the construction work of four incomplete electricity projects in western Afghanistan's Herat province, the company said in a statement on Wednesday.

With an investment of 8.1 million U.S. dollars, the four substations are designed to produce 40 megavolt-amperes of power and are scheduled for completion within six months.

Afghanistan is currently experiencing a significant electricity deficit. The country requires an annual supply of 850 megawatts, of which 620 megawatts are imported from neighboring countries, while 230 megawatts are generated from local resources, according to DABS officials.
