KABUL, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Police thwarted attempts to smuggle firearms and discovered 17 pieces of pistols in Afghanistan's eastern Paktia province, said a statement of the provincial police office on Saturday.
Acting on a tip-off, police launched an operation and confiscated 17 pistols that were being smuggled into Dad-e-Patan district, the statement added.
Without providing more details, the statement noted that the smugglers escaped, and the police have been trying to arrest them and bring them to justice.
