100 drug-addicted Afghans reintegrated into society after recovery

KABUL, Oct. 6 (Xinhua) -- More than 100 addicted Afghans rejoined with their families and reintegrated into society after recovery in western Afghanistan's Herat province several days ago, provincial director for counter-narcotics police, Mawlawi Hajji Hayatullah Rohani, said Monday.

Personnel of the counter-narcotics police rounded up more than 100 drug-addicted persons from across Herat about three months ago and shifted them to the rehabilitation centers, the official said, adding that they have been sent to their families after recovery.

The Afghan government, which has outlawed the cultivation of illegal crops, including opium poppy, drug production, and its trafficking, has rounded up thousands of drug-addicted persons and handed them to their families after rehabilitation over the past couple of years.
