Over 5,200 Afghan refugees return home in single day

KABUL, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Up to 975 Afghan refugee families, totaling 5,229 people, returned to Afghanistan on Wednesday, reported the official Bakhtar News Agency on Thursday.

Out of them, 1,178 people have been transported to their home provinces.

The remaining returnees would also be transported to their provinces after receiving necessary aid at the crossing points, Bakhtar further said.

About 4,000 Afghan refugees returned to their country last week.

More than 2.5 million Afghan refugees, mostly from neighboring Pakistan and Iran, have reportedly returned to their homeland since early last year, as the host countries have asked the refugees without legal documents to leave.
