1 dead, 16 injured in cross-border shelling in eastern Afghanistan

KABUL, March 30 (Xinhua) -- One person was killed and 16 others injured after cross-border shelling struck residential areas in eastern Afghanistan's Kunar province, the provincial police office said on Monday.

According to a statement, the incident took place on Sunday evening in rural areas of Asadabad, the capital of the province. One individual was killed on the spot, and 16 sustained injuries.

The incident comes amid ongoing tensions along the border, where residents have frequently been affected by sporadic cross-border shelling.
