Afghanistan incinerates nearly 500 mln afghani of worn-out banknotes

KABUL, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan's central bank, known as Da Afghanistan Bank, announced that it has collected and incinerated nearly 500 million afghani (over 7 million U.S. dollars) of worn-out banknotes in the southern Kandahar province on Friday.

According to an official statement, the collected notes spanning denominations of 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, and 1,000 afghani were gathered from the southern region of the country. The banknotes were subsequently burned in Kandahar in the presence of a designated government delegation to ensure transparency during the disposal process.

Da Afghanistan Bank emphasized that the removal of damaged currency is part of its ongoing mandate to maintain the integrity and usability of the national currency in markets nationwide.
