Reconstruction of major highway begins in Afghanistan's Kandahar province

KABUL, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan government has launched the reconstruction of a major highway in the southern province of Kandahar, local media outlet Tolonews reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, the project involves rebuilding the highway in Spin Boldak district at an estimated cost of over 16.5 million U.S. dollars. The construction of the essential highway is expected to be completed within one year.

The Afghan administration has pledged to restore all key national infrastructure facilities, including roads and highways that had been damaged or destroyed over the past more than four decades of foreign military presence, war and civil strife in the war-torn country.
