KABUL, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police set on fire more than 2,000 kg of illegal drugs seized in a series of operations across northern Afghanistan's Kunduz province, according to the Ministry of Interior Affairs on Wednesday.
The contraband was discovered during counter-narcotics raids in Kunduz city, the provincial capital, and surrounding districts over the past year.
Authorities also arrested over 600 people suspected of involvement in smuggling, purchasing and selling the illicit drugs.
The Afghan government has pledged to eradicate narcotics, aiming to transform the country into a drug-free nation.
