KABUL, Aug. 29 (Xinhua) -- At least three people were killed and two others sustained injuries after a boat capsized in a river in northern Afghanistan's Badakhshan province, a local official announced late on Thursday.
The accident occurred when the boat sank during a river crossing on the outskirts of the province's Yaftal district, said Ehsanullah Kamgar, provincial police spokesman.
One body has been recovered, while security personnel and local residents continue their search for the two missing bodies, Kamgar added.
According to the official, the cause of the capsizing remains under investigation, with authorities working to determine the circumstances that led to the disaster.
Badakhshan, a remote and mountainous province in northern Afghanistan, is known for its rugged terrain and reliance on rivers for transportation in areas with limited infrastructure.
