KABUL, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- The first-ever book market opened in Afghanistan's capital Kabul on Wednesday to promote the culture of book study among citizens in the country, the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA) reported.

Aimed at supporting publishers and book sellers as well as enhancing the culture of study among the people, the newly constructed book market was built by the Ministry of Information and Culture in collaboration with the Kabul Municipality.

About 200 book sellers and publishers have been relocated to the newly opened book market, the state-owned media outlet said on Wednesday night.

"The Ministry of Information and Culture is planning to build a cultural city in a historical site of Kabul city known as Mashin Khana in the near future, where publishers and book sellers would be moved," RTA quoted Hayatullah Mohajer Farahi, the deputy minister for the Ministry of Information and Culture, as saying.
