Over 8.7 tons of illicit drugs discovered in S. Afghanistan

KABUL, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Police discovered and confiscated more than 8.7 tons of illegal drugs in southern Afghanistan's Helmand province over the past week, the Ministry of Interior Affairs said on Wednesday.

The narcotics were confiscated in routine operations conducted by counter-narcotic police on the outskirts of Baghran and Gareshk districts and in Lashkar Gah city, the capital of the province.

Four individuals were arrested in connection with the seizures, and their dossiers will be referred to the judiciary for further investigations.
