MAZAR-I-SHARIF, Afghanistan, Sept. 25 (Xinhua) -- A blast of hand grenade on Sunday night rocked north Afghanistan's Mazar-i-Sharif city, the capital of Balkh province, provincial police spokesman Mohammad Asif Waziri said on Monday.
Local television channel Tolonews quoted Waziri as saying that the blast took place at around 8 p.m. in front of the municipal office.
The incident caused no loss of life and the security forces cordoned off the area for investigations, according to the official.
However, locals close to the site said the blast had caused panic among people and that casualties could not be ascertained since it was night time.
