KABUL, March 16 (Xinhua) -- Afghan police have arrested four people on the charge of involvement in criminal activities including murder in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan on Wednesday, a police officer Mawlawi Fazal Rahman Zubair said on Thursday.

In addition to killing people and creating law and order problems, the arrested elements were also involved in armed robbery and theft in parts of Kabul city, Zubair, the head of Police District Eight, Kabul city told reporters.

Afghan police have also discovered and seized arms and ammunition including two pistols from possession of the arrested men, the official said, adding the arrested men have confessed to their crimes.

In a similar crackdown on criminals, police arrested a gang of kidnappers in Kabul city early Wednesday and rescued a businessman from the abductors' clutch.

Afghan caretaker government has vowed to crack down on criminal elements elsewhere in Afghanistan to ensure law and order in the war-torn country.
