KABUL, July 29 (Xinhua) -- At least 40 people are feared dead after a flash flood hit a village in eastern Afghanistan's Nuristan province, according to media reports on Thursday.

The flood occurred in a remote mountainous area and local officials quoted by the media reports said it also destroyed dozens of houses and so far some 40 bodies have been recovered.

The reports said the area was not controlled by the government and it was difficult to deliver aid to the scene now, but efforts are under way to provide assistance to the affected village

It was the first time the area has been hit by a flash flood, according to the reports.
