GHAZNI, Afghanistan, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- Two people, including an assailant, were killed and seven Afghan army soldiers wounded in a suicide car bomb blast in eastern Ghazni province early Friday, a local government spokesman confirmed.
"A militant in a car bomb tried to assault an Afghan National Army (ANA) operating base in Nani locality, along Kabul-Kandahar highway roughly at 2:30 a.m. local time Friday. Soldiers manning the base fired on the vehicle before it reaches to the facility," spokesman Wahidullah Jumazada told Xinhua.
The explosive-laden hijacked army armored vehicle exploded after the shooting, killing a passing-by truck driver and wounding seven soldiers, the official said.
The wounded were shifted to an army camp for treatment.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
The province has been the scene of heavy clashes in recent years.
The Taliban militants have been trying to overrun small towns or districts across Afghanistan and consolidate their position during winter, launching hit-and-run ambushes against security forces.
