PanARMENIAN.Net - City of Laval, Canada has unanimously recognized the independence of the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), the Armenian National Committee of Canada reports.

In the resolution, the City of Laval:

- Recognizes the right to self-determination of the people of Nagorno-Karabakh;

- Condemns the military aggression of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Republic of Artsakh started on September 27;

- Calls the Government of Canada and the Government of Quebec to do everything in their power to assert full respect for International Humanitarian Law and particularly the Geneva Conventions;

- Invites the Government of Canada to grant the Armenians of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) the right of remedial secession by recognizing the independence of the Republic of Artsakh.

Italy's Lombardy, the Australian state of New South Wales, several U.S. states and dozens of towns across the world have already recognized Karabakh.

Azerbaijan, with help from Turkey and terrorist mercenaries deployed by Ankara, started a war against Karabakh (Artsakh) in the morning of September 27. The Armenian side has reported deaths and injuries both among the civilian population and the military. Foreign and local journalists too have been injured in Azeri shelling of towns and villages.

Donations can be made to Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, which has launched a fundraising campaign to support humanitarian efforts in Karabakh.
