BEIJING, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Friday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 1.19 percent at 3,360.1 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.49 percent higher at 13,489.01 points.
The combined turnover of stocks covered by the two indices shrank to nearly 849.8 billion yuan (about 122.4 billion U.S. dollars) from about 881.5 billion the previous trading day.
Most stocks edged up, with gainers outnumbering losers 999 to 383 on the Shanghai bourse and 1,529 to 622 in Shenzhen.
Shares in sectors of liquor and digital currency posted strong performances. Beijing Certificate Authority Co. Ltd. saw its share price rise by 6.08 percent to 60.85 yuan.
Bucking the upward trend, shares in breeding and agriculture industries lost.
The ChiNext Index, China's NASDAQ-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.76 percent to close at 2,668.71 points.
