Security officials from the US, Britain and the European Union will train prosecutors in the unit who will investigate graft

The head of Afghanistan's anti-corruption office, Mohammad Yasin Osmani, will be given the task of coordinating the squad, which he has said should be running in six months.

Afghan ministers will be required during the six month period to examine all of their employees to determine whether they were hired based on merit or cronyism.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai has come under increasing US pressure to fight corruption in his government since he won the election in a disputed victory.

US officials have said a key issue for President Karzai as a partner in the war will be his ability to fight corruption.
