Coke chairman says he will carry torch
Afghanistan News.Net Tuesday 8th July, 2008
Coca-Cola’s chairman has defended the firm's Olympic sponsorship in Beijing.
Neville Isdell said Coke would continue to sponsor the games even though there has been controversy over China’s human rights record.
With one month to go, Mr Isdell said the company remained committed to China's Games.
He reminded reporters that the company, whose Olympic involvement dates back to 1928, was also a sponsor for the 1936 Games in Berlin.
Mr Isdell said the company was supportive of the ideal of the Olympics; not individual governments.
He said he would carry the symbolic torch on the opening day.
